Please join us in congratulating Rev. Kenn Ward on being the first recipient of the Canadian Christian Communicators Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award (announced on Sept. 27 at our CCCA conference in Winnipeg).
Rev. Kenn Ward served with dedication and passion as editor of Canada Lutheran, the national publication of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada for over two decades, spanning two impressive terms (from September 1991 to June 2003, and July 2013 to March 2024). Over this time, Kenn has not only overseen 193 issues of this publication but has also shaped the voice of the ELCIC in a way that has had a lasting impact.
Kenn’s profound knowledge of the church, his deep connection to its people, and his unwavering commitment to sharing the stories, partnerships, and missions of our community has been extraordinary. He didn’t just edit a magazine, he amplified the heart and soul of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, connecting congregations and inspiring readers (and leaders!).
His editorial leadership has not gone unnoticed. Kenn’s work earned numerous accolades, including awards from the Canadian Church Press and the Canadian Christian Communicators Association. Notably, his contributions extended beyond his editorial work – he also served as the president of the Canadian Church Press.
With the March 2024 issue of Canada Lutheran, the magazine turned a page in Kenn’s extraordinary career. With this issue he bid a fond farewell to step into his well-deserved retirement. While he may be retiring from this role, his impact on the church, Canada Lutheran, and all who he worked with him will continue to resonate for years to come.
